Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party–Worth It Or Not

Disney’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a special party that Disney sells special event tickets to!  The party has special characters, shows and a parade that is unique to the party.  The tickets prices are between $75 to $125 dollars for the night.  Is it worth it or not?

Disney visits can get expensive and if you are like me, being handicapped makes you wonder if paying for a special party would be worth it. Disney can be hot and this first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was no exception.  August in Florida can be brutal and it was like that on August 17, 2018.

The party was sold out and so, a bit crowded.  The worst was upon entering the party.  They are working to empty the parks from those in Magic Kingdom for the day. this is all while the party goers are entering and it can get a bit crazy and crowded.  Timing is everything.  You are allowed to enter the park at 4pm, but the party does not start until 7pm.  We arrived at around 6pm.  The arrival of 4pm would have made this easier and there would have been more time to enjoy the park.  So, if  we recommend you arrive earlier than we did!  This will allow you to enjoy more of the parks before the park and avoid the crowd at the entrance.  You will have to go to the front of the park for the special wristband, but you can do that when the crowd thins.

The party has a limited number of tickets, so there are often less people in Magic Kingdom than on a regular day.  This allows you to get on more rides, as the wait time is less. For example, we waited for Peter Pan’s Flight and the wait time was 10 minutes.  Normally, the wait time is hours without a fastpass.  Some of the rides were walk on, without any wait time.

jack skellington

Special character meet and greets are another reason people want to attend these parties.  They Headless Horseman, Jack Skellington, Sally, the Seven Dwarfs, etc., are around the park for pictures and a visit.  Often, the lines are very long to meet these characters.   At the August 17, 2018 meet and greet for Jack Skellington was very long and a long wait.

Now, the special events, the show, parade and fireworks.  WOW!  These were really good!    The show, Hocus Pocus Spelltacular is the show with the Sanderson sisters and the Disney Villains!   The show is engaging and fun!  It will put you in the Halloween mood.  It made many comment that they were now thinking about decorating their homes for Halloween.  See the video below for the show

Hocus Pocus Spelltacular

The Boo To You Parade was really entertaining and included so many beloved characters, all dressed in their Halloween costumes.  It starts with the Headless Horseman riding through the park.  There were all manor of characters including a dance from the grave diggers from the Haunted Mansion.

Now, for HalloWishes, the fireworks show.  This was by far, the best fireworks display that we had ever enjoyed in the Magic Kingdom.  It was creative and innovative.  Nothing new for those at Disney.

HalloWishes

So, is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party worth it or not?  We believe that with all the specialty merchandise, food and the things listed above, this party is well worth it.  You will make memories that will last a lifetime!  So worth it and we would recommend this party to anyone that is a Halloween lover!

Tomorrowland Transit Authority The PeopleMover

peoplemover (1)

Tomorrowland Transit Authority-The People Mover.   The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, formerly known as the WEDWay (WED= Walt Elias Disney) PeopleMover from 1975 until 1994 and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority from 1994 until 2010, is a PeopleMover system in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort.  This is a staple ride that has been at the Magic Kingdom since near the opening of the parks.   For many people, this is a must do ride.  Let’s talk about why.

The PeopleMover is in Tomorrowland and there are many reasons that people enjoy the ride.  First, people are transported around Tomorrowland on these open air cars on the second level.  You get a great view of Tomorrowland from these ride.  You get to see the model of Walt Disney’s vision of Epcot was.  It is radically different from the Epcot theme park we know today!

You will pass through Space Mountain and get a quick glimpse of what it looks like in there!  This is one of the places that the ride is dark!   You also get a glimpse of Buzz Lightyear’s  Space Ranger Spin.

peoplemover

People seem to love the PeopleMover for many reasons.  There is the nostalgia of the ride.  being there since 1975, many people grew up riding the PeopleMover as children and it returns them to that state of mind.  On the opposite end of that is, as a parent, remembering all the rides when you children were little!   Whenever, I take this ride, in my mind’s eye, I see my son at 3 years old–fascinated by the ride!

For some people, it is not a trip to the Magic Kingdom if they do not take a ride on the PeopleMover.  This is a staple of many that frequent the parks.  This makes it a must do for them or they would not feel like they had that Magic Kingdom day!

So, there are many reasons why people love the PeopleMover.  Regardless of why people love it, the people agree that it is a loved attraction in Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom!  Make sure to give it a ride when you are there.  It will be worth the wait, which is not bad at all!   This ride is in constant motion, so the lines move quickly.  See a Point Of Video video below!

Disney Character Warehouse sign

There are 2 Disney Character Warehouses in Orlando that you can visit!  One on International Drive and the other located on Vineland.   These are really Discount Disney Stores.  There is a ton of real park merchandise!  Is it worth the trip or not?

Disney Character Warehouse is loaded with Disney park merchandise at 50-90% off.  You never know what will be there.  Dooney and Bourke purses, Statues, clothing and toys!  You can find almost anything can show up at the warehouse.  We, at Under The Ears, have gotten many amazing deals!  Let’s look at some of those deals

1. We purchased a statue being sold inside the parks for $90, we were able to purchase it at the Disney Character Warehouse for $12.99.  That is an amazing deal!

Disney Character Warehouse Haul

We at Under The Ears would recommend that you take a trip to one of the Disney Character Warehouses before you purchase things in the parks.  You may find what you are looking for at seriously discounted prices.  This can enable you to stretch your budget.  This is always a good thing at Disney, it allows you to do things that you may not have been able to.

So, in the end, the Disney Character Warehouse is a must do for any Disney fan!   This is most definitely worth it!  These are not items that are broken (careful, some toys or items are broken in the store).  This is an actual Disney store, not to be confused with THE Disney Store!  For many people, this is a must do when in town.  This is why the videos of the Character Warehouses are so popular on YouTube!   Our recommendation is that you should make time to visit one of the 2 locations.  Below are the addresses for both!   Enjoy your Disney Vacation.  Please Join us on Twitter Here

Things To Do In Pandora

""
plants-at-pandora-disney-animal-kingdom

Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom amazing and is packed with things to see and experience. Disney went all out and this land is highly immersive based on the Avatar movie.  Pandora is very popular and often a bit crowded. To get the most from your  visit, it makes sense to learn about its features and plan for your time in Pandora. Let’s take a look at some of the things to do while in Pandara.

Experience an amazing meal at Tiffins! Now, this is not in Pandora, but is located just outside the land. This amazing, high-end restaurant is by far, one of the best meals on Disney property! It is pricey, but worth it for something really special.  The Wagyu Beef was amazing.  Here is the review on YouTube, of my visit to Tiffins. If you are not looking for something in that price range, do not forget the Nomad Lounge.  They offer smaller plates and have extensive wine and beer listing that represent Africa, Asia, and South America. You are seated outdoors can watch the  guests making their way to and from Pandora. Not to mention the stunning river view.

The Drum Circle

There is a native drum circle that is also interactive. Visitors can tap a beat, and the drums will respond. At night, the music is accompanied by lights.

Interaction With The Plants In Pandora

The Pandora plants are interactive, like in the movie. When entering Pandora you encounter is a giant pod-like plant. To demonstrate the interconnectivity of the land, guests can interact with the plant by touching it. It responds by glowing and emitting a puff of vapor. Here is our video of exploring Pandora   Here you will see the Drum Circle and some of the interactive plants!

Pandora Floating Mountains

The Amazing Floating Mountains

When you enter Pandora, make your way through the winding path, turn a corner, and BAM  there are the floating mountains These are not only a prominent feature in Avatar the movie, but also in Pandora.   It is amazing how the imagineers were able to take these computer generated mountains into a real world experience. They are imposing!  Do not forget to keep  your eyes out for the waterfalls.  This is where you see the innovation of Disney with the creation of the Valley Of Mo’ara.

Pandora At Night

Pandora is a totally different place at night!  Here you will see all the bioluminescent plants.   It is an amazing atmosphere and you do feel like you are in a different world! Even the ground sparkles. It would be a mistake to only go to the land at night. You would miss a lot of the detail that is only visible during the day. But it would also be a mistake to not visit Pandora at night. Make sure to visit Pandora in both the day and evening.  Each is a different experience.

Satuli-Canteen_Pandora

Satu’li Canteen to Experience Local Foods

In keeping with the theme of the land, the food served at the Satu’li Canteen features healthy grain bowls and bao buns. The these delicious  dishes are of this world but nonetheless seem exotic. Presented as shiny blue, yellow, and white concentric orbs, a blueberry cream cheese mousse dessert is especially alien in appearance.

Flight of Passage

The highlight of Pandora, Avatar Flight of Passage is a thrilling ride that takes the “flying theater” concept Disney pioneered for Soarin’ to the next level. Set many years after the human-Na’vi conflict at the center of the Avatar movies, the people of Earth are now welcome to visit Pandora and learn about the customs of its indigenous people. That includes flying on the back of a winged banshee, a rite of passage for Na’vi teens.

As in the movie, guests “link” with an avatar for the experience. They board unique ride vehicles that not only simulate flying but allow passengers to feel the banshees’ diaphragms expand and contract as they breathe. The utterly convincing and transporting E-Ticket attraction is one of Disney World’s best rides. Because it is so popular, its standby lines can be very long.

disneys-animal-kingdom-pandora-world-of-avatar-Na've river journey

Na’vi River Journey

Pandora’s second attraction is the tonal opposite of Avatar Flight of Passage. Instead of thrills, Na’vi River Journey is a gentle, almost meditative boat ride through a Pandoran jungle. Passengers can see Na’vi tribespeople and creatures such as viperwolves. The attraction features the Shaman of Songs, a 10-foot-tall character that is disarmingly lifelike and among Disney Imagineering’s best animatronics.

So, make sure to plan out your day and enjoy all that Animal Kingdoms Pandora has to offer.  The better you plan, the more you can enjoy!   Link to our YouTube Channel Here

Disney World-What To Do When It Rains!

When visiting Disney World, you always have to keep the rain in mind.  Sometimes of the year in Florida, it rains every day.  They are usually a downpour, but the pass quickly.   Some months are simply prone to afternoon thunderstorms.  So, with a little planning, you can be prepared for the wet weather, and make the best of each day on your Disney World Vacation

Rainy Day Options

Continue with your plans: Most Florida showers are torrential and over quickly. Either pick up a poncho for each member of your family, and stay in the park you have chosen for the day. There are many indoor attractions where you can escape the rain. Often when you get out of the attraction, the worst of the rain has passed.

Explore the resorts: All the Disney World resorts are worth exploring.  They are fun and often have things to do and see.  Deluxe resorts Like Animals Kingdom Lodge have enough activities to keep you busy for the day.  Check your resort activity schedules or ask an on-site cast member for ideas on what to do indoors.  The cast members can be a great resource.

Go to the Magic Kingdom or Future World: Both the Magic Kingdom and the Future World section of Epcot are perfect for rainy days. The attractions are close together so it is easy to run through the rain, from one attraction to the next.  Both locations are also home to plenty of indoor attractions, allowing you to stay out of the wet weather entirely.

Take a down day: Schedule some downtime at your resort when you see clouds looming on the horizon. Disney resort rooms have with blackout curtains and are climate controlled, so head back to your room and take a rest.  This way you are rested and ready for when the weather has passed!  Just head back to your favorite park after the storms have passed!

Take a ride on the monorail: The monorail is always a great ride and it allows you to explore the resorts on the line!  There are many opportunities for shopping, meals and the hotels are so much fun to explore.  In the worst weather, you will not get wet!  There are great restaurants, arcades and shopping to be done!  Enjoy and since you are already on the monorail line, you can just hope back over to Magic Kingdom for the balance of your day.

Visit one of the spas:   When rain is in the forecast, look into one of the  spas on property.  They have all kinds of spa treatments to choose from.  For the kids, consider the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or the Pirate’s League for the kids!

If rain does come, it does not mean that you can not still have a blast!  It is about planning and do not forget, often the parks attendance drops.  Many people leave, so if it is raining, and no lightning, get the poncho out and enjoy the park!

Coronado Springs Rix Sport Bar &Grill

Disney Coronado Springs is a hotel in Walt Disney World in Orlando. The hotel has a Latin influence and decor. There is a hotel, plus a convention center within the facility.

Rix Sports Bar & Grill is one of the several good offerings within Coronado Springs. This is a sports bar, as the name suggests. The limited menu is a disappointment. First, we were seated and had to wait for a bit until the server arrived to greet us.

We decided to try the French Dip Sandwich. That took a really long time to come out of the kitchen. When it did come, the fries were luke warm. The bread was crispy, but limited meat and cheese and the presentation was lacking. It appeared to be slapped together, but we waited for about 15 minutes from the time we ordered.

Click for Video

The fries had great flavor, but as stated before, they were luke warm. The meat was flavorless without the au jus.

Over all, the meal was disappointing. I would rather have gone to quick serve. It would have been less time and so much more flavorful.

Rix Sports Bar & Grill is something I won’t bother to do again. Service was lacking and the good was just so-so. If I am paying & $17 for a snadwich, it should be fantastic. This was not.

Rix Sport Bar & Grill may be perfect for dad to catch some of the game and a quick bite while on vacation or at a convention. It would be ok for that.
